Reasons I am glad we did not have a 'traditional' wedding......

*begin rant*

"It's your Special Day!".
That phrase makes me want to *puke*.

It sucks money from your bank account and invites a host of familial problems to be wafted to the surface like pond scum.

One such problem arises from the picking of groomsmen. I suppose it is not the same for everyone, but as of now, on both sides of my family the following scenario is/and has been played out:

#1 Announcement of marriage.... (simple enough and harmless)

#2 Bride goes into overdrive and plans EVERYTHING within the first two-three weeks of said announcement. (with the exception of picking the Groomsmen)

#3 Groom assumes that brother will automatically be in the wedding without saying a word to said brother. (remember: to ASSUME makes an ASS out of U and ME)

#4 With a month or so left to the wedding date, unassuming brother finds out the "Good News" that he is to be in the wedding and possible be the Best Man.

#5 With no time to plan nor stash away some cash, there is little to no bachelor party and the speech royally is a toast to "Thanks Dude!"

#6 Groom has slight to very crushed feelings of worthlessness since there was no effort put into his "Special Day" by the unassuming brother.

Does this situation sound familiar?? Please get the word out to all the ASSUMING grooms out there that they need to remember that their telepathic powers are not working on their own family members. Pretend that they are not related and ASK!!!!!

I am so glad we got married at the courthouse...............
